Vietnam- Hanoi- Day 7

Check- in early at 6.30am.
$40USD per night
Nice hotel, newly refurbished in all rooms. Common areas and lift does not looks new.
Staff very helpful and trying very hard to speak English to communicate with customers.

Breakfast from Calypso Hotel
Junior Suite room (free upgrade)
Such a nice room but a pity without any shower foam.
Door eye hole is too high for me, I can't see even I tipped my toes.
Free day today and I headed to one of the award fine dining Vietnamese Restaurant.
Club Opera, 59 Ly Thai To
Total Disappointment, the whole restaurant has only one staff which can speak simple english.
Probably the lime juices is the best of all I'd ordered.

Sugar cane shrimp is overdone and too dry for the wrap.
Stired fried beef with lemongrass chilli too bland.
Total cost of the meal $31USD.
Hanoi Hilton, was a prison used by the French colonists in Vietnam for political prisoners and later by North Vietnam for prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. It was part of Hoa Lo Prison.
Entrance fee: 25,000VND
Vietnam faces a concentrated HIV epidemic. The UN believes that there were approximately 290,000 people living with HIV as of 2008.

Vietnam- Sapa- Day 6

Daily breakfast from Cat Cat View hotel.
Only entitled to choose from one of the main item and a drink.

Cat Cat Village, total of 300 people

The villagers using the leverage of this to pound the pail of rice at the back.

This is the leaves for indigo color.
Soaked in water for few days...
Cat Cat village is more commercial than the other 2 villages. Easier to walk with steps and stairs.

This is the stems of marijuana, they peel the skin of the stems and use it to sew clothes.

From going down using stairs...

Bamboo shoots
To going up using stairs again, requires some endurance and perseverance.
And going round the hill towards the the top.
Buffaloes
Set lunch ($5USD) at one of the restaurant.
Market in Sapa
This is the bamboo shoot, the local loves to soak it in some liquid preserved and eat.
I dare not try and dislike the smell even place it on my table. It smells very strong like some spoilt raw meat.
Some little creature soaked in the alcohol, think should be their tonic.
Cobra, scorpions etc...
Street near my hotel
Foot spa $9USD for 1 hour
Don't think of enjoying massage here is Sapa. You are actually just paying somebody to touch your legs or body only.

Night train back to Hanoi
I'd paid a better cabin but the officer saw me waiting for next train. Just grab my ticket and change another one for me telling me no need to wait. I told him i have somebody to wait for me as I'd inform them my train is SP4. He just replied, "never mind never mind"

And I paid for a better train and was shortchanged by travel agency, and now again by the train officer. This cabin was worst than what i had previously.
And that's Vietnam.
