17 Oct 2019
Breakfast was included in the hostel.
Simple breakfast like milk, juice, cereal and toast.
While having breakfast, chatting with other 2 room mates and telling them I going to St Jean de Luz and they immediately want to join me. So last min, we booked the bus online, changed and rushed to the bus station. Everything done within 30mins and we are in the bus station.

Ouibus (4.99eur)
Bus very punctual, booked only via app and eticket. Easy and smooth, bus on time too.

Grande Plage
The architecture are beautiful, a long walkway that lead to the house, very unique.

Along Rue Gambetta, the shopping street can find this pastry shop.
Paries
Gateau Basque (2.50eur)
This is REAL good! They used cherries that grown in the region.
Eglise Saint Jean Baptiste

Instincts, listed in Michelin guide.
Exquisite presentation but not as good as expected, very mediocre.

Boeuf de Pays Basque (22eur)
Basque beef steak

Poisson de Jour (19eur)
Haddock steak
My favourite drink in Europe, Innocent (2.99eur)
A lot more expensive than in Germany and Poland.
St Jean de Luz train station.
While waiting for our train, we start eating our dessert.
Raspberry custard tart (5eur)

Hendaye station
When i research online previously, some indicate only 10mins walk.
When arrived, i asked the station officer how far to the ferry port and he told me 10mins.
After 10mins, I asked another local and told me 20mins more.
5mins later, I asked another local and was told another 30-40mins....

Finally confused.... but no choice just to continue to walk....
Luckily the weather is good, nice view along the walk.
There are some nice houses here and a lot of yacht, very exclusive residential area.
Finally after walking 45mins in total, we arrived!

This is the boat we taking to go across to Hondarribia, Spain
2eur each pax, 10mins ride.
Hendaye

We took a break and have a drink in this cafe.
Thereafter, we took bus (2.65eur) number E21 back to San Sebastian, around 20-25mins.
There are a few buses back, some express and some slower which can take around 1hr. Do check the route before boarding.
ARrived back to our hostel, took some rest and head back to Bar Sports for my usual favourite. The croquette here not as good as Cerveceria Catalana.
Dinner time, decided to try some tasting menu, Vora n me came here and is fully booked.
The server recommended us to try their sister restaurant nearby, and just 5mins and the server from the other side came over and brought us to the restaurant.
La Fabrica
Set dinner including drink (33eur), w/o drink (30eur)
Tasting menu including drink (45eur), w/o drink (40eur)

We had the tasting menu with drink and is so worthwhile, one of my best meal this trip!
Sparkling water also included in the package, we had coffee and tea after the meal which is not included. Total damage: 93.50eur
Drinks included 1 bottle red wine and 2 glass of white wine.

Super satisfying meal and value worth every cents.
Appetizer
Some clam chowder soup

Seafood flan with king prawns, crabmeat and mayonaise.
Wild mushroom ravioli with foie gras cream
This is yummy!

Roasted loin of Tuna with comfiture of tomato and basil

Iberican pork cheek with apple chutney.
This is another exceeded expectation dish.

Pre dessert
Yoghurt ice cream sphere immersed in a red fruit syrup.

Apple tart with caramelised cider
Tri layered chocolate

The restaurant was full when we stepped in and we are the second last group to left at around 2am and 2 lady added up to more than 100years old slowly walked back to their hostel hahaaa.

  1. Useful post! I recently applied for a France Schengen visa and plan to visit France, Spain and other nearby countries. By sharing your insightful travel experiences to San Sebastian, Hendaye and Saint Jean de Luz, you might’ve just helped me to ease my planning for the three countries that I just mentioned. I will be looking at some of your other travel experiences to see if I can get some more cues from there. Keep sharing such helpful posts.
